Ever been told that Catholics made up all of our beliefs about Mary? Yeah…me, too.
And at the top of the list of our accusers is the Immaculate Conception.
Of course, I say “our accusers”, but truth be told, I used to be one of them.
Now I know better.
In fact, when you know how to approach the Bible correctly, Catholic teaching about Mary pretty much jumps off the pages from front to back.
And the Immaculate Conception is no exception.
So in the latest Art of Catholic podcast I’ve laid out a thumbnail sketch of the scriptural basis for how the Virgin Mary was conceived without sin to be powerfully used in God’s plan for our salvation.
It’s pretty clear once you see it.
Now if someone derides Catholic teaching and tries to tell you the Immaculate Conception isn’t in Scripture, you’ll know what to tell them…not to mention grow in your appreciation and love of Our Lady.
God bless and Happy Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception!

Glad to hear it, Virna! (And tell your RCIA class that I said that what they’re about to receive when come into the Church is nothing less than the Pearl of Great Price! I’m so glad I became Catholic!)
Thank you Matthew for this great explanation. More and more confirmed in my catholic faith. God bless you 🙌🏽
You are welcome, Jeanne! Great to hear from you!
Recall Mary is often referred to as the “Living Temple of the Most High God.”
Thanks so much for bringing the immaculate conception bible references to me. I’m so excited. I want to learn a lot more about mother Mary.
Thank you Matthew for using Scripture proving the Immaculate Conception of
Mary.
Excellent presentation with some new details for me. Much appreciate your ministry. Such an answer to problem of not finding a spiritual director close to where I live.
